PR: Mercury Interactive Provides Universal Website Monitoring Solution Measuring Performance
Oct 10, 2000, 22 :37 UTC (0 Talkback[s]) (733 reads)

PRESS RELEASE: Mercury Interactive Corp. today announced Topaz 3.0, a suite of Web performance monitoring solution that provides an early warning of performance degradation by correlating performance data back to the root cause both inside and outside the firewall. Topaz 3.0 can shorten the time required to restore a Web site to its peak performance by helping IT managers minimize the business impact of potential performance problems and maintain the best possible user experience.

Leveraging technology from the company's October 1999 acquisition of Conduct Software Technologies, Topaz 3.0 introduces a new non-intrusive, centrally located, network monitoring solution, Topaz Prism, that captures and analyzes every single request made to a Web server from all users, from all locations, all the time. Topaz 3.0 also introduces custom monitors that collect web and application server information for Alaire, Ariba, BEA, Blue Martini, Broadvision, IBM WebSphere and others.

"Topaz Prism is a powerful addition to our Web performance management product line," said Zohar Gilad, vice president of product marketing for Mercury Interactive. "For the first time, IT can quickly identify, quantify and resolve problems that arise within specific servers, ISPs, and routers on the network. With this addition Topaz 3.0 becomes the only solution that correlates information from all key infrastructures layers; presentation, application, servers, and network components, making Topaz an indispensable tool for Web operations managers who want to deliver Web sites with outstanding user experience and reliability."

TOPAZ PRISM 'LISTENS' TO ALL REQUESTS, FROM ALL LOCATIONS, ALL THE TIME TO MEASURE ONLINE EXPERIENCE OF EVERY USER
Topaz Prism simplifies Web site monitoring while providing in-depth information about performance problems without adding additional software or agents to the Web site. Topaz Prism is installed next to the Web server infrastructure, so that it can "listen" to every request sent to the Web server from any Internet Service Provider (ISP) or user's location. With Topaz Prism's WebTrace technology, IT managers can now provide a breakdown of end-to-end network time by "segment" and pinpoint performance problems on the network and Internet. Being able to capture all requests enables IT managers to identify slow segments, faulty routers, and ISP peering problems, and arms them with the data needed to ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are enforced.

Designed to handle very large volumes of traffic, Topaz Prism traces real-time requests from the client to the server and collects the Web transaction data, analyzes the data in real time and generates a series of online reports that include both high-level overviews and the ability to drill down into greater detail.

"Topaz Prism provides us with the information we need to keep WebEx's globally distributed communications network, with hubs in seven countries, running at peak performance," said Manoj Garg, chief information officer at WebEx Communications Inc. "Topaz Prism allows us to constantly monitor our network traffic, identify, isolate and immediately resolve potential performance issues before they become problems. WebEx's interactive communications platform is the standard for real-time meetings on the Web and Topaz Prism helps us keep WebEx's global network tuned to perfection."

TOPAZ 3.0 CORRELATES SOURCE OF END USERS PERFORMANCE PROBLEM TO ROOT CAUSE IN SERVER RESOURCES; SHORTENS TIME TO RESOLVE PROBLEMS; INTRODUCES CUSTOM MONITORS
In addition to alerting IT to end-user performance problems, Topaz 3.0 collects information from resources on Web servers, application servers, and database servers. Topaz 3.0 also introduces new custom server monitors that collect application specific information for Web servers such as Microsoft IIS, Apache and Netscape; application servers such as Allaire, Coldfusion, Ariba, Blue Martini, Broadvision, IBM Websphere, SilverStream, and Microsoft ASP; and database servers such as Microsoft SQL server and Oracle. Topaz 3.0 collects information from both the end-user presentation layer and system resources and correlates end-user performance problems to an application specific resource problem shortening the time for performance resolution.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
Topaz 3.0 is available now. Topaz 3.0 is sold on a subscription basis with pricing starting at $2495 per month. Topaz Prism can be purchased separately and starts at $2995 per month. Server monitors are priced individually and are available upon request. More information is available at www.merccuryinteractive.com or 1-800-TEST-911 in the United States.
