BW -- Threshold Networks, a provider of server appliances, announces the availability of a line of server appliances designed to empower the edge of the Internet. Three products, EDGE Web, EDGE Cache, and EDGE IP, are scalable, fault-tolerant solutions that can be implemented in any environment, ranging from small corporations to top Internet Service Providers. Easy Setup & Administration - A network administrator needs only an Internet browser and 15 minutes to setup each of the EDGE server appliances. Once the initial setup is performed, an easy-to-use LCD panel prompts the user for the basic information needed to connect the appliance to the network. Post installation, reporting tools and real-time monitoring features make long-term administration straightforward and painless. High Performance Hardware - In an appliance market where outdated hardware is the norm, Threshold Networks has decided to stay current. EDGE server appliances include industry-proven Intel Pentium III processors, ranging up to 933MHz, in single or dual configurations. The high performance, scalable server architecture boasts hot-swappable Ultra 160 SCSI hard drives, PCI RAID controllers, front-mounted dual redundant power supplies, and PC133 ECC SDRAM. Also, each unit comes standard with dual 10/100MB Ethernet ports, and can be easily upgraded to handle dual Gigabit connections. LCD panels for configuration and ongoing administration complete the equation in all three products. EDGE Web - Web appliances have found a new standard to which they can compare themselves. To start, EDGE Web supports SSL, has a full-featured firewall, and is based on the Apache HTTP engine, which is widely recognized to be the most powerful web server in use today. The appliance can easily support hundreds of domains, using either virtual IP or virtual hosting methods. Once a domain is created, the administrator has the ability to enable e-mail and FTP services, turning EDGE Web into a powerful web, e-mail, and FTP server. As a comprehensive development platform, the EDGE Web is enabled to support PHP, CGI, Java VM, and Mod Perl. For individual control, accounts can be created which give end users the ability to maintain websites, as well as add e-mail and FTP accounts. EDGE Web also contains a powerful mailing list application and is the only server capable of fully supporting both Microsoft Frontpage subweb administration and Microsoft ASP extensions. EDGE Cache - Engineered around CycloneFS, a state of the art journaling file system that increases system throughput by an order of magnitude, EDGE Cache is proving itself to be a leading Internet caching solution. It most notably offers full pre-caching capabilities and support for standard, transparent, and reverse proxy caching. Its feature set includes three levels of user authentication, a symmetric object retrieval engine that will parse out data and anticipate client requests; interval based net caching, and extensive reporting features. Speed is clearly evidenced by its CacheOS operating system, which produces up to 670 requests per second throughput. EDGE Cache doesn't forget management either. Administrators have the ability to create accounts directly, or, if a professional authentication already exists, they can configure it to use existing Radius or LDAP systems. EDGE IP - Threshold Networks is the first company to integrate DNS, DHCP, and IP management services in an appliance form factor. By not charging a per-IP licensing fee, EDGE IP makes a strong case against using traditional software-only DNS solutions. All records in EDGE IP are stored in a centralized database, and IP networks can be managed using either domains or sub domains. The EDGE IP DNS server appliance further distinguishes itself with its ability to coexist with legacy systems in most DNS environments, making the normally daunting task of migrating to a new DNS relatively simple.
