Covalent Technologies, a vendor of commercial Apache releases for the enterprise, today announced it will optimize Tomcat, the open-source implementation of the Sun Microsystems Java Servlet and JavaServer Pages (JSP) technologies developed at the Apache Software Foundation, for the requirements of enterprise computing environments. Covalent also announced today that it is including Tomcat in its Web server products, including Fast Start, Managed Server, Commerce Server and Secure Server. Tomcat delivers JSP Page and servlet functionalities to enterprise users and service providers. Tomcat's appeal in the enterprise is growing as many companies are recognizing the cost and flexibility advantages of Tomcat. In addition to being used to deploy enterprise web sites, Tomcat is also employed by many independent software vendors as a run time environment for their web based applications. Tomcat 3.2 implements the Servlet 2.2 and JSP 1.1 specifications.
